Los Angeles Lakers v New Orleans Pelicans

Wanted: Saavy Veteran For NBA Roster

The NBA season is right around the corner and I’m still working hard to get another opportunity.

I’ve been through this before; it’s not the first time, so I’m just looking forward to what’s next.

I would love a chance to get back out there and play some ball and keep my journey alive and my legacy going. Right now it’s all about just having a good time with the sport that has gotten me to this point and enjoying it.

D-League Select v New Orleans Pelicans

Motivated By A Successful Summer

Welcome everyone back to my blog. The NBA season is fast approaching, and I’m excited about that. The experiences that I’ve had this summer have pushed me even more to continue to play.

Right now, I’m just in it. I love the game no matter what. It’s not about the money for me because I’ve made enough money in my career where I can walk away if I wanted to. I just want to continue to play and end my basketball career the way I want to end it.

The opportunity is there. A couple of teams have asked about me and told my agent they were pleased with the way I played in summer league. So for that to even be said from a team, with no negatives, means things are looking up.

Delaware 87ers v Austin Toros

Focused on the NBA

It’s been a little while since I’ve posted a blog entry, but it was important to me to write this one now.

Currently, I’m in Las Vegas, where I’m training with Joe Abunassar of Impact Basketball. Joe is one of the best trainers in the pro game. He has tons of experience, and he knows what it takes to get a guy into NBA shape. That’s my goal right now.

Adjusting to Austin and the NBADL

Going into this offseason, I was just looking forward to playing basketball after suffering an ACL injury again last year. So instead of sitting around and waiting for a team to call, I took the great opportunity the Spurs gave me to sign and play on their D-League team. Now I’m just trying to take advantage of it.

So far I’m feeling good. It had been a while since my last game in the NBA and I’ve only played in nine games here so far, so I’m shaking off the rust. I’m just trying to plug away at that, get consistent and get in a rhythm so that hopefully I can come back to the league sooner than later.

My body is getting there. I’m not that spring chicken I used to be but I know when my conditioning comes everything else will fall into place. I’ve always been one of those guys that can get in shape pretty fast. Once I feel that happening I think the sky will be the limit again.

Teaching and Learning in Dallas

We just wrapped up the eighth year of my basketball camp here in Dallas last week, and it was a great experience that was also a lot of fun.

I usually put on the camp myself through my foundation, but this year, I decided to partner with Higher Goals to do it. It was pretty similar to the camps I’ve put on in the past, but we liked the idea of teaming up with an organization like Higher Goals.

The camp was set in Grapevine, which is a nice area out here in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. We had a great turnout of about 75 kids ages 7-14, and went from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. each day Monday through Thursday. The kids had a great time, and I think we really made it enjoyable for them to learn the process of playing basketball.
